The Programme
About FabrikArtGroup
FabrikArtGroup is an art group with artists’ members. It is concerned with the contemporary arts. The group arranges exhibitions, conferences and seminaries. It sets collective projects with the invited artists and associations. It aims to gather different art disciplines under the same framework and arranges art festivals without any intention of profit. It makes the artists who are from the Turkish region; Europe and different continents come together during the festival arranged at Cappadocia and hosts the artists during different time periods. It arranges workshops and hands in the products to civil government so that they are exhibited. It supports the artists dealing with different subjects and disciplines in order to make them work cooperatively during the festival. The annual festival to be arranged in 2008 is the third one.
FabrikArtGroup and the aims of the festival:
• To organize an Annual Contemporary Arts Festival with a theme, to be joined by artists from several disciplines.
• To create an international platform for contemporary artists and high quality contemporary art works both indoors and outdoors (as explained below) and to exhibit them during the festival period.
• To create a sense of interaction and sharing by means of the participation of Turkish and artists from abroad.
• By organizing the festival, FabrikArtGroup aims to create a ground for creativity by making different art disciplines interact with each other and by benefiting from the blending of the artists’ cultural and artistic pasts with Cappadocia’s cultural and environmental atmosphere.
• The effects and outcome of the Contemporary Arts have the potential of creating a turning point for the development of the region. For that reason, cooperation between the artists and the people living there is crucial. Local production is focused on creating art works by using volcanic material, art of ceramic and weaving. Contemporary artists may benefit from those abilities and experiences. FabrikArtGroup counts Contemporary Arts as an element of this list, too.

Water!=Bright? Explanation of the theme
The theme of 2008
FabrikArtGroup decided to organize the festival by focusing on issues related to ecology, culture and environment. Every year, a topic will be chosen for the participant artists to handle it with a wide perspective.
Apart from its geographical features, Cappadocia is an interesting region both in terms of culture and history. The region is still peaceful and far away from the fast contemporary world and as a result, a perfect place for art production and exhibition.
Examining and being closer to the region is easier, more delightful and charming due to its open-air museums, cave churches, historical places and dovecotes. Hand made buildings and statue-like volcanic environment on a 40.000 km2 land astonishes all the visitors. The region becomes familiar to the world step by step with all its environmental deficiencies in infrastructure.
For that reason, the theme of 2008 is Water!=Bright?
Cappadocia is on UNESCO’s world protection heritage list and for that reason the festival aims to introduce the region to the world and to find solutions to its problems. Here is a summary of the problems: deficiency of drinking water and sewage system, waste water systems on the open lands, garbage dumping in the valleys and environment, open air dumping grounds, harm given to environment by cars and motorcycles used for touristy purposes and the plan to bring direct waste water to the Kizilirmak River.
Beside producing and exhibiting art objects, FabrikArtGroup expects to educate and inform the local people about the ecologic and careful usage of environment. It aims to reveal the necessity of using environment in a careful way if we want to use it in the future too.
Artists may handle the theme with a wide artistic perspective and produce something specific for the festival or they may be invited to the festival due to their former works related to the theme.
The artist should relate his work to the theme but he is free to form the content of his work.
FabrikArtGroup will analyze the works both in terms of artistic value and relevancy to the theme.
